The Power of Global Corporations and How They Run the World
Global corporations such as Black Rock, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Morgan Stanley are some of the most powerful entities in the world, exerting a vast influence on global economies, politics, and societies. These corporations, often referred to as "too big to fail," are considered by many to be above governments, with the ability to shape the world in ways that governments cannot. In this blog, we will take a detailed look at how these corporations run the world, the extent of their power, and the ways in which they are able to exert this power.
First, it is important to understand the size and scale of these corporations. Black Rock, for example, is the largest asset manager in the world, with $8.7 trillion in assets under management as of 2020. Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Morgan Stanley are also among the largest banks in the world, with each having over $2 trillion in assets. These corporations are not just large, they are also incredibly profitable. In 2020, Black Rock had a net income of $3.3 billion, while Goldman Sachs had a net income of $8.3 billion. JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley also had net incomes of $14.3 billion and $4.1 billion, respectively.
The sheer size and profitability of these corporations give them a tremendous amount of economic power. They are able to shape markets, influence governments, and control large portions of the global economy. For example, Black Rock's $8.7 trillion in assets under management gives it significant control over the stock market, as it is able to buy and sell large amounts of stock in any company. This can have a significant impact on the stock prices of those companies, and even the overall stock market. Similarly, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Morgan Stanley's control over large portions of the global economy gives them significant influence over governments. These corporations are able to lobby governments to shape policies that are favourable to their interests, and they are also able to influence the decisions of central banks and other regulators.
One example of the power of these corporations is their influence over the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve is the central bank of the United States, and it is responsible for setting monetary policy and interest rates. However, these corporations have significant influence over the Federal Reserve through their control of large portions of the economy and their connections to the Federal Reserve's board of governors. For example, in 2008, Goldman Sachs was able to influence the Federal Reserve to bail out AIG, a company that had large amounts of debt to Goldman Sachs. This allowed Goldman Sachs to avoid significant losses and maintain its profitability.
Another example of the power of these corporations is their ability to shape global trade. These corporations are able to use their economic power to shape trade agreements and tariffs that are favourable to their interests. For example, in 2017, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase were able to influence the United States government to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) to include provisions that were favourable to their interests.
With all this in mind, it is almost frightening how much of an influence these cash-giant organizations have on common people and the organizations normal people depend on and estimating the current trend, their monopoly on people and the government will only tighten in near future.
